Myth: Chiropractic adjustments are painful.

In general, adjustments do not hurt. Lots of people get worried about them but the vast majority of people actually get a lot of relief after receiving an adjustment. On occasion, they may feel uncomfortable when there is inflammation and lots of muscle spasms. When it comes time to do an adjustment, I will set it up and make sure that it is not painful before actually do the adjustment. If the setup is painful then we can find another way. People will occasionally get muscle soreness after their first few adjustments, but this is typically like the soreness in the muscle you get after doing a new exercise. If it a patient is unable to tolerate and adjustments or is just too nervous about it, other techniques can often be used like Activator Methods where no cavitation occurs. There are some people in our office who are treated without ever being adjusted as well.

Dr. Bryan D. Royer has been practicing chiropractic medicine in the Toledo area since 2005. He graduated summa cum laude as the class salutatorian from the National University of Health Sciences (NUHS) in 2004. Dr. Royer’s earned a Bachelor of Science with a major in biology from the University of Dayton in 1999 and another Bachelor of Science with a major in human biology in 2002 from NUHS. He is a Board Certified Chiropractic Neurologist practicing in the Toledo area and is also a Certified Chiropractic Sports Physician® (CCSP®). Dr. Royer is the only healthcare provider in the Toledo Area to be certified in Graston Technique® and he is also a Certified Kinesio Taping Practitioner (CKTP).
